inFAMOUS 2 Review

July 28, 2011

Sucker Punch’s Cole Mcgrath is back and while inFAMOUS was a new successful title that took everyone by surprise, the million dollar question is how does inFAMOUS 2 scale after 2 years? Is doing the same thing you did 2 years back still fun or has it become a repetitive chore for any player to play as a super hero?

inFAMOUS 2 takes us straight into the action where The Beast is already destroying Empire City. The story is still told through an animated style comic, which suits the mood of inFAMOUS 2. We were shown a vision of the future by Kessler in inFAMOUS. Cole tries battling with The Beast but to no avail your powers are too weak and they get drained so you become even weaker. You then set off to New Marais with a new assistant named Kuo, a girl who will have a major part to play later on in the game. Once you arrive at New Marais you must head to Dr.Wolfes lab and talk to him about getting your powers stronger enough to defeat The Beast before he reaches New Marais.

Gameplay was what made inFAMOUS very fun and engaging and inFAMOUS 2 makes it that much better, with new powers, faster Cole, better gliding and nearly everything has been improved other than Cole’s voice. inFAMOUS 2 still plays exactly like how inFAMOUS did but that isn’t exactly a bad thing. Change isn’t always good. Cole can unlock powers by either completing story missions, side missions or using his powers on enemies. What has been improved vastly over the original game is the melee. Cole at the beginning of the game is given a weapon called the AMP and I found myself using melee very often thanks to the nice slow motion effect as the weapon is used. It’s actually really fun to use after unlocking all the moves for it. Blast Shards are also back but aren’t anywhere as difficult as collecting in the previous game due to one of Cole’s new powers that can be unlocked later on in the game. New enemies which are more difficult than conduits have been introduced. Also the bosses in this game are huge when compared to the last.

You’re still given the ability to choose if you would like to play evil or good but this doesn’t exactly effect much in the story at all but only how civilians react towards you. Play evil and they will come and try to beat the living hell out of you on the streets but play as good and they actually do help and beat down on anyone that attacks you. Playing good or evil will give you karma based powers, with each karma having a different set of powered abilities, this boosts the games replay value and will want to make the player, play again to see the alternative ending and experience the different powers and different missions you can play.

The city of New Marais has more variety than Empire City. New Marais has a swamp and a flooded area which you will see Cole begin to dance if he steps into a shallow part of the landscape containing any sort of water. Also the amount of destruction that can happen on the screen at once is really impressive. Numerous explosions and enemies doing there own thing makes this game more action packed than the original.

Also Sucker Punch now allows players to create their own missions and upload them for players around the world to experience. These missions are shown on your map just like a story mission but will be coloured in green. Also there is a filter option to filter what sort of missions you would like to show up. Creating a mission is not simple but not easy either since there is basically no tutorial to help you through it step by step. So to create your perfect missions it will mean you will need to play around with the creation feature of the game.

inFAMOUS 2 is not perfect with the camera being sometime a hassle when in interior buildings and the game is yet to be challenging at all. Hard difficulty isn’t really hard and Cole still sticks on to ledges like super glue when you’re not trying to hold a ledge.

inFAMOUS 2 is a fun and engaging game to play. Completing everything will take you around 20 hours and that’s not counting the endless possibilities of playing the UGC missions players have created or you can spend countless hours creating your perfect mission. inFAMOUS 2 does everything and better than the original, with a lot of variety and replay value makes this title a must have for any PS3 owner.

Top Most Wanted Games Of 2011

August 11, 2010

Once 2011 begins, mankind will only have one more year remaining until….the end of the world. Within mankind’s final year, a huge blow out of highly anticipated games are going to be released. Some are new I.P’s while some are sequels. Some you’ve never heard of  while some are more famous than bread on a stick (wait is that even famous?). Gentlemen & ladies (gentlemen first), allow me to introduce to you the most wanted games of 2011!

Homefront – PS3, 360, PC – Kaos Studio

Homefront is a first person shooter set in 2027 where America is actually invaded for once in a game by South Korea. The game takes place in what looks like after the war, as America looks decimated!

Kaos Studios promises emotional depth characters, huge explosions and an interactive free roaming world. In the demo you’re taken to a survivor encampment called Oasis. The area is peaceful but one mistake and all hell could break loose. The area has a school and a children’s playground, yet it’s swarming with men patrolling the area with guns. Homefront will also have multiplayer but the developer wishes not to discuss its plans at this time. All that is known about multiplayer is that will be somewhat similar to the likes of Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s MP.

Killzone 3 – PS3 EXCLUSIVE – Guerrilla Studios

“But if there are those who deny us peace, refuse us our rightful place in the universe, then we will unleash such terrible vengeance that generations yet unborn….cry out in anguish.” Good old Visari, too bad he won’t be back but Killzone 3 will be. Killzone 3 is already shaping up to be best looking FPS out there. New features such as the jet pack have been confirmed and developer Guerilla have showcased the game in a variety of different environments rather than the overused grey & dark environment. Plus if you’re a rich fellow, you can play this game in 3D!

Infamous 2 – PS3 EXCLUSIVE – Sucker Punch

Cole is back and not only with electricity, but with also ice powers….groovy. Not much really has been confirmed on the game other than the game itself of course. Cole was redesigned by Sucker Punch to a gayer Cole, why Sucker Punch, why? The voice actor has been changed. Why Sucker Punch, why? Yet from the amount of complaints Sucker Punch was punched at, they have returned everything back to normal. Bald Cole is back. Why Sucker Punch, why? (just kidding).

Dead Space 2 – PC, PS3, 360 – Visceral Games

One of the most scariest games of this generation is back and it’s time to kick some Necromorph ass with new weapons and this time around it will take place in a city. Is it just me or has Isaac lost some weight? He’s either pumping iron with the Necromorphs or maybe from the amount of times he has shit his pants? The game will have more death animations, plus the setting will vary and it won’t all take place on a spaceship. Isaac still makes stupid noises in his suit (my favourite feature in Dead Space).

Rage – PS3, PC, 360 – id Software

Yep, another apocalyptic themed game, but could this better the almighty Fallout? Visually it already has coming from the developers that brought you Quake and Doom this isn’t surprising with the game’s visuals being hand painted. Set in an open apocalyptic world with a wide variety of enemies, it seems like id Software are developing another classic. The enemies in this game keep the player on their toes as they try to outmaneuver you. One thing you wouldn’t know is this game isn’t an FPS oriented game but also a racer, so be sure to keep track of this game for more twists. Plus this little baby won numerous awards at this year’s E3, being the best game at the show.

The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword – Wii EXCLUSIVE – Nintendo

Play any Zelda game and you’re guaranteed to be wearing green and throwing a boomerang some point in the game. With this game, the controls have been revamped and now you have more control over Link’s sword than ever before. You can hypnotize enemies by drawing a circle around your them with your sword. Bombs are rolled in a bowling motion and whips can be whipped by moving your control in a…whipping motion. By the end of it, you will weigh as much as Link because this game should be called The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Calorie Burner.

Portal 2 – PS3, PC, 360 – Valve

“There was even going to be a party for you. A big party, that all of your friends were invited to. I invited your best friend, ‘the Companion Cube’. Of course, he couldn’t come, because you murdered him.”

Aren’t we all glad Portal 2 is being developed and we can memorize the script again in hope it would be as memorable as the first one? Portal 2 takes place 50 years after Glados dies (when your dead I’ll be still alive). A new feature in Portal 2 is coop. Now you have another player that can help you work out puzzles and help you progress through the game. New mechanics such as Weighted Storage Cubes, Aerial Faith Plates and more have been introduced.

And yes, our beloved Companion Cube is back.

Neverdead  – PS3, 360 – Rebellion

In most games, once you lose your limbs it’s over, but not in Neverdead because you’re already dead. You play as a character who is immortal and once one of your limbs is sliced off your body, it will affect the way you have to play and need to start being tactful. What’s even better is that once one your limbs is sliced off, you can go over to it and stick it back on. Sounds gruesome doesn’t it? No one is really sure how you can die in this game just yet, but my guess is that once you lose all your limbs, it’s game over even for an immortal.

Oh and losing your head doesn’t seem much of a problem as you get to play on, although we still don’t understand how just yet.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution – PS3, 360, PC – Eidos Montreal

There is a very fat chance that this could very well be next years Game of The Year! Its predecessor was a true successor and a classic. Alpha Protocol tried to take its crown but failed miserably. The game has been in development for years, so you can bet your asses this is going to be up there with its elder brother, although the game is actually a prequel to the first Dues Ex. The game will pretty much be just like the first one, where you have a wide variety of different ways to completing a mission. Using stealth or go out all guns blazing or maybe, just maybe you can talk it out with the soldiers?

Twisted Metal – PS3 EXCLSUIVE – Eat, Sleep, Play

Twisted Metal is back baby! What’s even better is now we can finally play this game online with 16 players without it lagging as shit! With online game modes and ranking up, this game looks as crazy as any game can get. Also for the very first time, there will be air vehicles so you can expect more carnage this time around. Also a new online mode called Nuke is being introduced. In this mode, each faction will need to destroy their opponents statue with nuclear powered missiles, by capturing team leaders.  The game has only been announced so not much else is really known about it, as it still seems to be early in development.

Bodycount – PS3, 360 – Codemasters

Be prepared for huge explosions and body counts like you’ve never seen before. Be prepared for….Bodycount.  Everyone remembers how impressive Black was on the PS2? Well hopefully we will be as impressed once this baby is released. This shooter is not about realism, it’s more about the player having fun blowing up and taking things to the absolute extreme. It’s more about causing an explosion and walking away slowly while your back is to it.  The story behind the game is your dropped from a plane and into a war zone in Africa. You’re ordered to annihilate everyone in sight!

What’s your most wanted game of 2011? Post it in the comment section.

Top 10 Upcoming PS3 Games

May 8, 2010

The PS3 had one hell of a games line up in 2009. With E3 just around the corner I’m sure Sony has many surprises for its fans. Also who gives a shit about motion control? All this news about the Playstation Move and Natal is annoying. Why the hell wouldn’t you want to play games while just laying down on your bed or on a toilet seat? Modern gamers are stupid, so we’re taking it back old school with the top 10 upcoming PS3 games you can play with a JOYPAD!

10. Agent – Rockstar North

Not much is known about this game other than its developer and how it would be a similar sandbox game like the Grand Theft Auto series. When GTA was released Rockstar had said that they were restricted with how much content to include in GTAIV because of the Xbox 360. So Agent is like PS3’s GTA. I’m always looking forward to shooting up some hoes after everything is done and dusted. So Agent is a PS3 exclusive to keep a watch on. Agent earns itself a position at number 10 after ridding the world of some whores.

9. Modnation Racers – United Front Games

Ever felt like creating your own car and racing track then publishing it online and riding it with Nathan Drake or Kratos? Oh crap, well now you can. In this game you race and along the way you pick up weapons to use against your opponents. You can also customise your character, car, create your own race track and publish it online for others to race on. This game is a cross between LittleBigPlanet and Mario Kart. Plus this big daddy is being released very soon, so be sure to check it out. Oh and one last thing, you can expect a shit load of downloadable content for this game just like LBP. From characters to racing tracks. After shooting its way through with rockets, this game nabs 9th place.

8. Dead Space 2 – EA Redwood Shores

The previous game was one of the top survival horror games to be released this generation. With the sequal confirmed to be released in April 2011. The game seems to take place in a city rather than on just a ship this time around. The developers also have confirmed that the game will have new weapons and much better death scenes. They’ve also confirmed that Isaac’s armor will all look completely different, unlike the previous game where more metal plates where placed on each armor and only the last one being completely different. The developer still hasn’t confirmed if coop will be included in this game as of yet. Hopefully the final boss battle would be more epic and not only will it be slamming its tentacles down and you just strafe left and right to dodge them. Also hopefully we don’t have to fight a vagina again but maybe a penis? Only time will tell. Isaac plasma blasts 8th place.

7. Gran Turismo 5 – Polyphony Digital

The 5 edition to the highly acclaimed racing simulator. Now this game sells in millions and millions of copies around the word. It’s one of the most realistic and enjoyable racing simulators out there. With a make up over do, the cars and tracks look more realistic than ever! Also we have a game with most of the latest cars and a game that’s been in development for such a long period of time, it’s on the verge of being released sometime this year. Also a couple of days ago the game was said to be 90% complete, so this game will be racing to store shelves very soon. Expect Sony to announce a PS3 bundle with Gran Turismo 5. This title is sure as hell to make Sony big buck buck bucks! This game reaches the finish line at 7th place.

6. Fallout: New Vegas – Obsidian

If you were a fan of Fallout 3 you will most likely already know this game has been in development for quite a while now.  Ever wanted to gamble in Fallout 3? Well now you can, with the developer promising the choices you make will have a heftier price to pay and new gameplay features. This is definitely an RPG to look out for. The game takes place 3 years after the events of Fallout 3. So there could be some similarities in the story. The game is still set in post-apocalyptic times where nearly everything is pretty much destroyed and what you see is just the aftermath. Also the famous radio stations should be back in this one, so I don’t want to set the world on fire, I just want to set a flame in 6th place.

5. LittleBigPlanet 2 – Media Molecule

A very innovative game is about to get a sequel and MM is promising lots of new features such as the player won’t just be restricted to creating only platformer levels, but now can create shooters, RPG’s, adventure and other genres in gaming. With that said, think about all the possibilities that can be created in LBP2. Also all DLC content from the previous game will be transferred to the new one. What is even better is that this game is slated for a 2010 release. What’s even funnier is that this game was only confirmed a couple of hours ago. Hopefully slapping people can be more brutal this time round. Sackboy creates his way to the 5th spot.

4. Final Fantasy Versus XIII – Square Enix

If you are a PS3 owner and was let down by FFXIII, then you still have hope to feed your RPG hunger once this game is released. With the Kingdom Hearts team working on this , it really looks promising. Also this game won’t be downgraded to fit the 360’s capabilities as it’s a PS3 exclusive. So this game will pretty much prove how FFXIII should have looked or how much the game could have offered at the end of the day. Once this game is released, we will truly know how much the 360 held back FFXIII.

3. The Last Guardian – Team Ico

If you were ever a fan of Ico or Shadow of The Colossus you will know what to expect from Team Ico. A game that brings something new to the table. Something that’s innovative and something that a game that no other has done before it. From what we’ve seen in the trailers, you get to either control a little boy that takes care of a large god knows what sort of species it is or the god knows what species it is takes care of you. Not much in terms of gameplay features have been revealed for this game as of yet, but you should definitely expect this title to be at E3. Also if you’re a true gamer you wouldn’t care what kind of game this is, you should purchase it just because it’s by Team Ico.  The Last Guardian nabs 3rd place.

2. Infamous 2 – Sucker Punch

With Sony just grabbing the Infamous 2 domain a couple of days ago, this pretty much confirms this game is on its way. The first game was a truly a great new IP and I played both as evil and good and they were very entertaining. It will be interesting to see what kind of are direction the developers will be taking on with Infamous 2. Will you be able to carry on with the same powers as the first game? Will there be much more side features to do this time around in the city? All will be confirmed very soon!

1. Killzone 3 – Guerrilla Games

Yes I know this game hasn’t even been announced yet but it’s common sense that it will be announced very soon seeing all the rumous floating around about it, it seems that we may very well get this game sooner than we think. I’m going to take a wild guess and say this game will be showcased at this years E3 and we will be once again blown away just like how Killzone 2 blew everyone away once they saw the demo play on screen. The story of ISA VS Helghans shall continue, hh and I hope Rico dies in the first 10 minutes of Killzone 3, damn that character is annoying as hearing announcements about Natal & PS Move! The Helghan empire VEKTAPEDIA are No.1!
